Principal Construction Manager in Liverpool (Matchworks, Speke)

In this role, you will lead the safe and efficient delivery of complex traffic management and highway construction programmes. You will play a key role in ensuring works are planned, managed, and delivered with minimal disruption to road users while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and client satisfaction.

Working within a collaborative environment, you will lead construction and traffic management activities from planning through to delivery, managing resources, budgets, programme performance, and stakeholder relationships to achieve successful outcomes.

The standard hours of work are 37.5 hours per week.

What you will be doing:

  • Leading the delivery of traffic management and highway construction programmes, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Managing construction activities to minimize disruption to the travelling public while maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Ensuring full compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Overseeing the deployment and performance of site management and supervisory teams, embedding a "right first time" culture.
  • Managing programme delivery, resource allocation, risk mitigation, and performance monitoring across multiple projects.
  • Working closely with clients, design teams, operational teams, and key stakeholders to deliver agreed project outcomes.
  • Reviewing construction methodologies and delivery solutions to improve efficiency, safety, and customer experience.
  • Supporting commercial performance through effective management of project costs, valuations, and contractual commitments.
  • Driving continuous improvement by reviewing project performance and sharing lessons learned across the business.

We want to hear from you if you have:

  • Significant experience managing large-scale traffic management, highways, infrastructure, or civil engineering projects.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing operational, supervisory, and project delivery teams.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction delivery, programme management, and operational risk management.
  • A strong understanding of health and safety legislation and its application within highways and traffic management environments.
  • Experience managing client relationships and delivering projects against performance, budget, and programme requirements.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to manage project costs and contractual obligations.
  • Personal Highways Safety certification or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach with the ability to drive performance and continuous improvement.
