Principal AWS Platform Consultant
Location: Remote (UK)
At Expert Thinking we are looking to hire an experienced Principal AWS Platform Consultant to join their growing cloud consultancy.
Expert Thinking is a pioneering UK consultancy specialising in Cloud Platforms, Cloud Data & AI, Cloud Migration and DevSecOps. Built by engineers, for engineers, the business works with organisations delivering complex transformation programmes and helps them solve difficult technical challenges through modern cloud technologies, automation and AI.
This is a senior role combining technical consultancy, architecture, pre-sales and delivery leadership. It would suit someone who wants to remain close to technology while operating at Principal level and having genuine influence over both client outcomes and the future direction of the business.
The Opportunity
As a Principal AWS Platform Consultant, you will act as a trusted technical advisor to enterprise clients while helping to shape and lead complex cloud transformation programmes.
You will work closely with Expert Thinking’s Technical Director, Delivery Managers and engineering teams, providing technical leadership throughout the full project lifecycle, from initial discovery and solution design through to delivery.
A key part of the role will also be supporting pre-sales activity. You will join client scoping calls, lead technical discovery sessions, help shape solutions and contribute to Statements of Work from a technical perspective.
From a delivery standpoint, you may take on the virtual role of Squad Lead, quickly establishing credibility, setting the technical direction and making key architecture and engineering decisions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading technical discovery workshops and client scoping sessions
- Supporting pre-sales, solution shaping and technical proposals
- Producing Statements of Work and defining technical delivery approaches
- Acting as the technical lead across cloud transformation programmes
- Designing secure, scalable AWS platforms and cloud foundations
- Leading engineering squads and mentoring consultants
- Making technical decisions and escalating risks where appropriate
- Working closely with Delivery Managers to ensure successful project outcomes
- Helping shape new services, technical accelerators and best practices
- Contributing to the continued development of Expert Thinking’s AWS and Platform capabilities

What Expert Thinking Is Looking For
The core requirement is strong AWS Platform Engineering expertise.
This needs to be someone who understands how to build the platform that applications, data and AI workloads sit on, not someone whose experience is limited to deploying workloads into an existing environment.
You will ideally have experience across:
- AWS Landing Zones
- AWS Organisations and multi-account environments
- AWS Control Tower
- AWS IAM and identity federation
- Cloud networking and security
- Platform governance and guardrails
- Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
- CI/CD and DevOps
- GitHub and modern delivery practices
- Enterprise cloud architecture
- Cloud migration and modernisation
You will also need strong consultancy experience, including:
- Leading client workshops
- Technical pre-sales
- Solution shaping
- Writing Statements of Work
- Stakeholder management
- Leading engineering teams
- Making technical and architectural decisions
- Translating technical concepts into business outcomes
Desirable Experience
Platform is the core capability, but experience across Data and AI would be highly attractive.
