Innovating a Better World
We're looking for an exceptional Principal Consultant – Design & Engineering to provide strategic technical leadership across some of the UK's largest and most complex infrastructure and transformation programmes.
This is an opportunity to influence major investment decisions, shape future capability and work directly with senior industry leaders to deliver lasting outcomes.
The Opportunity
As a Principal Consultant, you will operate as a trusted technical advisor, bringing together engineering excellence, programme leadership and strategic consulting expertise.
You will work with senior client stakeholders to solve complex challenges, establish technical direction and ensure programmes deliver integrated operational capability, not simply engineering outputs.
This role combines technical authority with consultancy leadership. You will help clients navigate complexity, manage risk, make informed investment decisions and deliver sustainable long-term value.
The successful candidate will be recognised as a respected industry expert, capable of influencing executive level stakeholders while leading multidisciplinary teams in the delivery of complex programmes.
What You'll Do:
Provide Strategic Technical Leadership
- Act as a senior technical authority across major client programmes and portfolios.
- Shape engineering strategies that align infrastructure investment with operational and business objectives.
- Provide independent technical challenge, advice and assurance to clients and programme leadership teams.
- Support programme mobilisation and establish effective governance and delivery frameworks.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
