AtkinsRéalis UK Transportation business brings together the capabilities of our Rail, Highway and Local Transport teams into a single business of 3,000 talented transport consultants and engineering professionals. The unique breadth of services in Transportation, combined with our scale, makes AtkinsRéalis the leading UK transportation infrastructure consultancy. Join us at an exciting point in our journey as we launch our new Intelligent Transport and Infrastructure (IT&I) practice. We have brought together a team of 180 consultants and engineers with deep expertise across asset management, intelligent mobility, smart technology, and digital and data solutions within the transport environment. This newly formed, externally facing business is designed to align closely with our clients' evolving needs, while creating fresh opportunities for our people to grow, develop, and thrive as part of a collaborative and innovative practice.

Discipline

As an Associate Director in our Intelligent Mobility team, you'll help shape the future of transport through the delivery of innovative intelligent transport systems and digital mobility solutions. Working with clients such as National Highways and local authorities, you'll build trusted relationships, identify new opportunities and see them through to successful delivery. Leading multidisciplinary project teams, in a project-based environment, you'll bring people together around a common goal while delivering smarter, safer and more sustainable transport networks.

Your role

A key part of the role will be to open up opportunities in the North and Scotland to support our ambition for growth. We have a hybrid working model so this position will blend homeworking with being based at one of our key locations including: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester.

This role spans technical advisory and delivery, working closely with clients, stakeholders and the supply chain. Ideally, you'll be strategic in your approach with a work winning focus.

  • Work collaboratively with the senior team to drive growth, support the development of our people, and ensure technical excellence across all the Intelligent Mobility Teams.
  • Have a leading role in winning and delivering work associated with local and central government operations.
  • Promote the Intelligent Transport and Infrastructure practice and wider AtkinsRéalis externally.
  • Support the IT&I Practice Director and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in delivering the performance targets for the wider practice.
  • Provide technical leadership, ensuring that our Intelligent Mobility team deploys and continually develops the best technical and management solutions for our clients, and that we strive for and promote technical excellence.
  • Act as Project Director or Technical Reviewer on strategically important commissions.
  • Steer work winning and delivery in Scotland and the North of England to align the practice to client accounts identified in the Transportation business plan, developing the specific growth plan.
  • Engage and support clients and stakeholders to raise our profile and drive growth.
  • Mentor and support colleagues to increase resilience and promote development of our people.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of local transport technology sector covering intelligent mobility, intelligent transport systems and/or public transport.

About you

  • Proven experience building trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders, creating long-term partnerships and delivering exceptional outcomes.
  • A track record of identifying opportunities, developing solutions and converting ideas into successful projects and sustainable business growth.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to inspire and influence multidisciplinary teams in a project-based environment.
  • Experience delivering complex Intelligent Mobility, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) or transportation technology projects.
  • The ability to engage confidently with clients, partners and colleagues, building consensus and bringing people together around a shared vision.
  • Commercial awareness combined with a client-focused mindset and a commitment to delivering value.
  • Experience mentoring, supporting and developing colleagues, contributing to an inclusive and high-performing team culture.
  • Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline, with professional membership or chartership desirable.
