The Principal Role

The Principal is responsible for developing, implementing, and executing tax controversy consulting services to the Fortune 1000. Principal delivers value through execution of technical consulting requiring a deep understanding of the IRC, case law and other technical guidance related to coordination of deficiency interest in concert with overpayment and underpayment across tax periods requiring the creative application of the interest netting rules.

  • Supervises consulting work delegated to staff and managers.
  • Develops and delivers ongoing technical training of staff and managers

Client

  • Develops new client relationships and works with Ryan global management team to expand the Practice to other markets.
  • Works within the Practice to develop new strategies in response to legislation changes and case law
  • Routinely makes presentations to prospects and clients.

Value

  • Develops and executes interest and penalty recovery for clients
  • Serves as subject matter expert for Practice area throughout Firm and to the external marketplace
  • Assists in the general operation and administration of the Practice.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree or equivalent in Accounting and/or Finance required.
  • A minimum of ten to twelve years of experience in Practice specialization.
  • Previous track record of excellent service delivery and working in a team environment.

Computer Skills

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.

Certificates And Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly or indirectly supervises employees in the Practice and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Firm’s policies and applicable laws.

Work Environment

  • Standard indoor working environment.
  • Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
  • Position requires regular interaction with employees and clients both in person and via e-mail and telephone.
  • Independent travel requirement: 30 to 50%.
  • 50+ hour standard workweek requirement.
