Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer
Principal Architect of Scalable Distributed Systems
Enables the development and architectural design of components for scalable, elastic distributed systems. Key responsibilities include:
- Defining and enforcing scalability requirements for owned components
- Optimising code and data paths for high-throughput, hyper-scale workloads
- Leveraging data plane platforms for large-scale retrieval, storage, and processing
- Designing fault-tolerant, in-service-upgradable systems using:
- Redundancy and replication
- Failover protocols
- Partitioning policies
- Load-shedding, throttling, and rate-limiting to handle network unreliability while meeting SLOs
- Establishing KPIs and telemetry
- Building proactive dashboards and alerting
- Designing complex validation (fault injection, brownouts), replication, and synchronisation for correctness and durability
- Proactively diagnosing and resolving production issues
- Mentoring peers and ensuring operational readiness
- Implementing robust security controls
- Executing remediation, maintaining compliance documentation, and developing:
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Automation for safe patching, updates, and rollbacks within change management plans
