Principal Corporate Lawyer - Locum
We are currently working in partnership with a Local Authority in the West Midlands, who are recruiting for a Principal Corporate Lawyer on a locum basis for at least 9-12 months. The position is due to start as soon as possible, and the hourly rate is circa £75 p/hour (Umbrella), but can be negotiable depending on experience.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking local authority that is undergoing significant regeneration and development. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting major corporate and strategic projects and will lead a high-performing legal team within a modern local government environment.
Duties
- Leading and managing the Corporate Legal Team, providing clear and practical legal advice to senior officers and stakeholders
- Advising on a broad range of matters including procurement, construction, employment and governance
- Acting as a principal legal advisor on major projects involving multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Supporting the delivery of strategic corporate objectives through high-quality legal advice
- Managing a personal caseload of complex and high-profile legal matters
- Promoting good governance and maintaining strong working relationships across the organisation
- Supporting the professional development and performance of colleagues within the legal team

Experience Required
- Significant experience within local government legal services
- Proven experience managing a legal team
- Experience advising on corporate, procurement and governance matters
- Experience leading and delivering complex projects
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Required
- Thorough knowledge of local government law
- Strong understanding of public procurement legislation
- Excellent leadership and people management skills
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management abilities
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively at senior level

Working Hours
- 37.5 hours
- Monday – Friday
