Principal Data Architect - Inside IR35 - Up to £800 per day
Hybrid in Central London

Our client is a leading global financial services organisation undertaking a major data and cloud transformation.
They are seeking a Principal Data Architect to lead the architecture of solutions replicating critical Databases of Record (DBORs) into Microsoft Azure and Fabric OneLake. The role will provide technical leadership across multiple replication initiatives, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, resilient and capable of supporting near-real-time data products and Data-as-a-Service capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Define and own end-to-end data architecture for database replication into Azure/Fabric.
- Present designs through Architecture Review, Security, Risk and Governance forums.
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture, Azure standards and security requirements.
- Act as the senior architectural escalation point across multiple replication teams.
- Identify and mitigate technical, security, data and operational risks.
- Design secure, scalable hybrid-cloud architectures across on-premises and cloud environments.
- Architect initial load and CDC replication across Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Sybase.
- Define replication strategies using technologies such as Oracle GoldenGate, Qlik Replicate, Debezium and Microsoft Fabric Mirroring.
- Define performance, resilience, monitoring and disaster recovery strategies.
- Establish reusable architecture standards, patterns, templates and runbooks.
- Mentor engineering and delivery teams on data architecture, Azure and Fabric best practices.

Required Skills
- Strong expertise in Azure, including:
- Microsoft Fabric / OneLake
- Azure data services
- Azure networking
- Azure identity, security and governance
- Extensive database and replication experience across Oracle, SQL Server and PostgreSQL; Sybase experience desirable.
- Strong Oracle GoldenGate / CDC experience.
- Experience with streaming and near-real-time data integration.
- Strong understanding of secure data movement into cloud platforms.
- Experience with data warehousing and data engineering.
- Proven experience working with on-premises and hybrid-cloud environments.
- Strong understanding of resilience, scalability, performance and disaster recovery.

Preferred Skills
- Experience with Qlik Replicate, Debezium and/or Microsoft Fabric Mirroring.
- Previous experience within financial services, capital markets, banking or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience presenting architecture to senior governance and technical forums.
