Senior / Lead Data Engineer
Build a Modern Cloud Data Platform

I’m working with an ambitious and rapidly growing HealthTech business that is tackling one of the most important challenges in modern healthcare.
Their technology is already supporting hundreds of healthcare providers and helping improve outcomes for millions of patients. As the business continues to scale, data is becoming increasingly central to everything they do.
They are now looking to hire their first dedicated Senior Data Engineer.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to go beyond simply building pipelines.
You’ll play a key role in designing and building a modern cloud data platform from the ground up, acting as the technical lead for Data Engineering and taking ownership of the architecture, strategy and long-term direction of the platform.
The Role
You’ll be joining at a pivotal point in the company’s growth.
The existing data estate has evolved alongside the business, with data coming from a mixture of operational systems, APIs, third-party platforms and file-based sources. Your role will be to help transform this into a clean, scalable, centralised and well-governed modern data platform that can support analytics, product development and the wider business as it grows.
This is a highly hands-on position, but it also requires a high level of design, architecture and strategic thinking. You’ll be responsible for:

- Designing and building a modern cloud-based data platform
- Acting as the technical lead and owner for Data Engineering
- Defining the architecture and long-term data strategy
- Building scalable data pipelines and ingestion frameworks using Python
- Designing and evolving the organisation's warehouse / lakehouse architecture
- Working across a modern cloud environment, primarily AWS
- Building robust transformation workflows using dbt
- Improving orchestration, testing, deployment and developer experience
- Introducing strong data quality, monitoring and observability practices
- Implementing infrastructure-as-code and treating data infrastructure like software
- Establishing appropriate governance, security and access controls
- Working closely with Engineering, Product and Analytics teams
- Providing technical leadership, mentorship and guidance around engineering best practice
🔎 What They're Looking For
This would suit someone who has strong hands-on Data Engineering experience but is also comfortable stepping back and asking: "What should this platform look like in 3–5 years, and how do we get there?"
You should have experience with:
- Strong Python and SQL
- Designing and building production-grade data pipelines
- AWS or another major cloud platform
- Modern data warehouses or lakehouse technologies such as Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks or BigQuery
- dbt and modern transformation practices
- Orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster or equivalent
- Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform, CloudFormation or CDK
- Data architecture and platform design
- Data quality, monitoring and observability
- Data governance, security and access controls

The ideal person will have experienced a business or platform going through significant growth and will understand the challenges that arise when early-stage data infrastructure starts to reach its limits.
You’ll be comfortable making architectural decisions, influencing stakeholders and balancing immediate business requirements with the longer-term data strategy.
Particularly Interesting Backgrounds
Experience within any of the following would be highly beneficial:
- High-growth technology companies or startups
- Building or significantly redesigning a cloud data platform
- Being an early or first Data Engineer within a business
- Platform Engineering or Data Platform environments
- Highly regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services or similar
- ISO 27001, GDPR or broader data security and governance environments
