Principal Engineer - London

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Engineer to join a growing transport and infrastructure consultancy in Central London. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer looking to take a leading position within a highly regarded team delivering active travel, highways, public realm and sustainable transport projects across London and the wider UK.

You'll play a key role in shaping projects from concept through to construction, working closely with local authorities, developers, stakeholders and multidisciplinary design teams to create safer, more sustainable and people-focused places.

The Role

As a Principal Engineer, you'll take ownership of project delivery while providing technical leadership across a broad range of transport infrastructure schemes.

  • Lead the design and delivery of active travel, highways, junction improvement, public realm and streetscape projects from feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.
  • Act as a technical lead, reviewing designs, drawings and reports to ensure solutions are safe, practical, buildable and compliant with industry standards.
  • Manage multidisciplinary project teams, providing technical guidance, mentoring and support to engineers and technicians.
  • Oversee project programmes, budgets, resources and risk management to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Apply industry guidance and standards including DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20 and CDM 2015.
  • Build strong relationships with local authorities, clients, elected members and wider stakeholders.
  • Support business development activities including bids, fee proposals, framework submissions and client relationship management.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
