Principal Designer Recruitment

We are currently recruiting for a Principal Designer to join a growing and well-established consultancy delivering Principal Designer services across both the CDM Regulations and the Building Safety Act. Following the award of several larger contracts, the business is entering an exciting period of growth and is looking to strengthen its team with an experienced construction professional. They are looking for 2 Principal Designers, one of which will focus on CDM and the other on the Building Safety side.

This opportunity offers an excellent level of project variety, working across Housing, Healthcare, Commercial, Industrial, and High-risk buildings (HRBs). We welcome applications from experienced CDM Principal Designers, Building Regulations Principal Designers (BRPD), as well as Architects, Architectural Technologists, Building Surveyors, Building Control Surveyors, and Design Managers with a strong understanding of the CDM Regulations or the Building Safety Act. Whether you are already carrying out BRPD duties or are looking to develop further within Building Safety, this role offers the opportunity to continue expanding your expertise within a supportive and growing consultancy.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 DOE

Principal Designer Overview

  • Deliver Principal Designer duties in accordance with the CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Undertake Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD) duties under the Building Safety Act.
  • Advise clients, designers, and contractors on statutory compliance, design risk management, and Building Safety requirements.
  • Review design information to ensure compliance with current Building Regulations and relevant legislation.
  • Prepare and review pre-construction information and health & safety documentation.
  • Attend design team meetings and provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Carry out site visits and inspections where required.
  • Work across a broad range of projects including social housing, High-Risk Residential Buildings (HRBs), healthcare, commercial, industrial, insurance reinstatement, care homes, and new build developments.
  • Liaise directly with clients, consultants, and contractors to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Play a key role in supporting the continued growth of the Principal Designer and Building Safety team.

Principal Designer Requirements

  • Experience working as a Principal Designer (CDM), Building Regulations Principal Designer (BRPD), or within a related technical construction role.
  • Applications are welcomed from Architects, Architectural Technologists, Building Surveyors, Building Control Surveyors, Design Managers, and similar construction professionals.
  • Good understanding of the CDM Regulations 2015 and/or the Building Safety Act.
  • Experience working on residential, healthcare, commercial, industrial, or public sector projects would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build lasting client relationships.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • AutoCAD experience would be advantageous, while Revit knowledge would also be welcomed as the business continues to evolve.
