EDP, an RSK Group company are seeking an experienced Principal Designer CDM to join their team in London/South East.

We are seeking a Principal Designer CDM to join our expanding team, supporting a diverse portfolio of construction, infrastructure and building projects across London and the South East.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong construction background who enjoys being involved throughout the project lifecycle, from early design stages through to site inspections and project delivery. You will work closely with clients, design teams and contractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly and efficiently.

£50,000 - £60,000 + £4,200 Car allowance.

Hybrid Working Home-based with travel across London and the South East. (Applicants would be best located within approximately one hour of Greater London)

The Role

As Principal Designer CDM, You Will

  • Act as Principal Designer under the CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Lead design risk management activities across multiple projects.
  • Develop and review Pre-Construction Information, Design Risk Registers and Health & Safety Files.
  • Chair Design Team Meetings and facilitate effective communication between project stakeholders.
  • Carry out site visits and construction inspections, producing detailed reports and recommendations.
  • Review contractor RAMS, particularly for high-risk activities.
  • Advise clients, designers and contractors on CDM compliance and best practice.
  • Support the delivery of practical, commercially focused safety and risk solutions.

About You

We are looking for someone who can combine technical CDM expertise with practical construction knowledge.

You Will Ideally Have

  • Significant experience operating as a Principal Designer under CDM Regulations.
  • A background within construction, surveying, engineering, architecture or project delivery.
  • Experience undertaking site surveys, inspections and construction monitoring activities.
  • Strong knowledge of design risk management and construction safety.
  • Experience engaging with clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Willingness to develop your skills to provide Principal Designer BR (Building Regulations) support, through mentoring and training.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across project locations.

Desirable

  • CMaPS accreditation or working towards it.
  • Membership of APS, CIOB, CABE or IOSH.
  • Experience across commercial, industrial, infrastructure or public-sector projects.
