About the role
The Product Analytics and Experimentation team sits within the Data, Analytics & AI directorate in the Technology department. Our mission is to deliver insightful and actionable data through reporting, analysis, and experimentation; with a focus on establishing best-practice processes and enabling data-driven decision making across all supported product teams. The Tesco mobile app and in-store self-checkout tills are among the digital products supported by our team.

The position can be based either in our Digital Innovation Centre in Farringdon, London, or in our head office in Welwyn Garden City, with some occasional travel to the other office required. In line with our values, we strongly embrace flexible working options.
You will be responsible for
This role reports into the Head of Product Analytics & Experimentation and is part of the Product Analytics & Experimentation leadership team. This role will support the AI Experience product, operating with startup urgency to create new customer growth. Expect end-to-end ownership—rapid experimentation, fast shipping, and leaning in wherever the work takes you, beyond your job title.
The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with the ability to inspire and influence a dynamic, cross-functional team—turning complex insights into strategic actions that deliver measurable business impact. Strong strategic thinking and advanced problem-solving skills will be essential, alongside a naturally curious and inquisitive mindset. This individual will play a pivotal role in shaping a robust measurement framework and surfacing actionable insights to senior stakeholders, ensuring any recommendations are informed, and aligned with organisational goals.
Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business (you’ll likely be working on some of the newest innovations in the business), the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:
- Owning relationships with product managers, UX leads and Data Science Managers, helping them define objectives and key results, setting targets, analysing product releases, defining and validating hypothesis, and making product recommendations.
- Executing end-to-end analysis: gathering and shaping requirements; defining success metrics; identifying and validating sources of data; identifying and validating methods of analysis; delivering insights and liaising with clients and partners to ensure the best recommendations are identified and delivered.
- Being the lead team expert on digital analytics and ensuring that you drive best practice within the team. Being a central point of contact for best practice and excellence in your specialist subject around the wider business.
- Setting the standard across the Product Analytics and Experimentation team on our use of AI capabilities and embedding best practice to ensure we realise its potential.
- Using data from multiple sources to identify trends, exposing new opportunities, and answering business questions.
- Using models, advanced analytics and statistical techniques to serve the purpose of the business, making recommendations to improve customer experience and business results.
- Proactively identifying data quality improvements that increase the performance and accuracy of KPIs and analysis.
- Giving greater context to analyses by incorporating external data for comparison purposes (industry benchmarks).
- Designing and owning the vision/strategy for the processing, analysing and synthesis of AI agent data and how we best leverage this now and in the future.
- Delivering streamlined analytics for our conversational assistants—instrumentation and metrics (intent, success rate, CSAT, latency, cost), plus diagnosis and recommendations for prompts/training data.
- Leading performance reviews in exec governance forums.
- Ensuring that good experimental practice is observed and that hypothesis testing is rigorous and is clearly drafted to answer the key business questions.
- Leading the strategy for blending conversational, experience and sentiment analysis to create a complete picture of the customer across all channels we operate in.
- Guarding data quality, privacy, and confidentiality (GDPR/PII, NDA), with clear documentation, decision logs, and reproducible analysis.
- Following our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence.

This role will best suit an individual who enjoys working as part of a team, is well organised, pragmatic and a lateral thinker with an inquisitive mind who is motivated to make change for the better and, most importantly, puts our customers first.
You will need
You’ll need to have demonstrated experience of:
- Working effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and understanding how to contribute to all phases of the product development lifecycle.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills – you must be able to articulate complex concepts to a diverse audience.
- The ability to influence without authority.
- Thinking at a conceptual level across a number of platforms and channels.
- University degree of 2:1 or higher in a quantitative discipline or relevant experience.
- A high level of commercial awareness.
- Several years of experience in analytics positions.
- Managing change in a dynamic environment.
- Advanced use of digital analytics tools.
- Advanced SQL.
- Advanced data visualisation and storytelling.
- Advanced customer-centric segmentation and statistical modelling techniques.
- Advanced online data collection.
- Advanced experimentation.
- Intermediate Extract, Transform and Load (ETL).
- Deep understanding of generative AI models and Agentic AI.

- Annual bonus scheme of up to 45% of base salary.
