Principal EC&I Engineer

West Yorkshire
circa £70,000 + benefits

Certain Advantage is partnering with a key client to recruit a Principal EC&I Engineer. You will lead EC&I delivery and provide technical authority throughout design, testing, and commissioning. You will guide the team in developing high-quality solutions, applying engineering principles to resolve complex challenges. You will oversee design activities, coordinate stakeholders, ensure compliance, and advise on electrical systems.

What will you be doing?

  • Lead and support the team, allocating work, developing individual performance, and resolving issues.
  • Deliver innovative EC&I solutions across complex projects, working independently within organizational and client requirements.
  • Improve engineering practices, processes, and procedures, and promote consistent, high-quality delivery.
  • Produce and approve wiring diagrams, P&IDs, schematics, connector tables, splice documentation, bills of materials, drawings, and installation instructions.
  • Ensure designs meet functional safety, cybersecurity, hazardous-area, EMC/EMI, environmental, and survivability requirements, including applicable MIL-STD, DEF-STAN, UK, EU, and client standards.
  • Coordinate cable routing and interfaces with gearbox, mechanical, transmission, process, and marine engineering teams, including for demanding operating environments.
  • Use PLC and DCS software, investigate technical issues, and identify root causes.
  • Define and manage design requirements, lead multidisciplinary project activities, and participate in design reviews through client acceptance.

A couple of things you should know:

  • Skilled in preparing electrical specifications, scopes of work, engineering calculations, drawings, and schedules.
  • Demonstrated EC&I engineering experience, preferably in heavy industry or rotating equipment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a related discipline.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD layout tools, such as Solid Edge Electrical or NX Electrical Routing.
  • Familiar with defence platforms or industrial machinery.
  • Sound knowledge of ISO requirements, EMI/EMC principles, grounding, shielding, and cable protection.
  • Experience designing test rigs and integrating product and rig hardware.
  • Understanding of gearbox and drivetrain integration.
