Principal EICA Engineer - Water
Location: Remote / Home Based (with occasional travel to Manchester for site visits, FAT testing and meetings)
Contract Duration: Until June 2027
Sector: Water
Our client is seeking an experienced Principal EICA Engineer to join their growing engineering team, supporting a range of major water sector projects and frameworks. This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineer with strong Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (EICA) expertise to take a leading role in the delivery of complex engineering solutions within a highly regulated environment.
The Role
Reporting to the Project Lead Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across multiple projects, ensuring high-quality EICA design solutions are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with client requirements. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and stakeholders while supporting projects through design, procurement, installation, and commissioning phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce cost-effective EICA design documentation that meets project specifications and can be efficiently procured, installed, and commissioned.
- Develop outline electrical, instrumentation, and control designs for water sector projects.
- Carry out site surveys and provide construction and commissioning support.
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and produce technical reports.
- Review and approve engineering documentation and technical deliverables.
- Manage and allocate work within project teams to ensure delivery against programme.
- Prepare equipment and material requisitions and installation scopes of work.
- Review supplier quotations and undertake technical bid assessments.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and client requirements.
- Support safe delivery through effective risk identification and management.

Requirements
- Degree-qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Control, or a related Engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer, Incorporated Engineer, or actively working towards professional registration.
- Significant engineering experience, ideally 15+ years within the water sector or similar process industries.
- Recent water sector experience is essential, with client-facing experience highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of UK engineering legislation, standards, and best practice, including WIMES.
- Experience with hazardous area installations and compliance requirements including ATEX, PED, EMC, Machinery Directive, and Low Voltage Directive.
- Strong understanding of design processes, installation requirements, risk management, and HSE principles.

You will be a motivated and collaborative engineering professional with excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and project teams. You'll have experience leading engineers, delegating work effectively, and maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer outcomes.
