Principal Electrical / EICA Engineer – UK Water & Wastewater

About the Role

The UK water sector is undergoing unprecedented investment and transformation. As Egis scales its Water Business in the UK, they are building a high-performing EICA Engineering team to drive this future.

This pioneering opportunity allows you to:

  • Contribute to nationally significant water and wastewater projects.
  • Work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment.
  • Deliver technically robust, sustainable, and innovative treatment solutions.

Candidates will shape and expand an EICA engineering capability rooted in global expertise and long-term sector commitment.


Key Responsibilities

Project & Design Leadership

  • Lead multidisciplinary water/wastewater treatment projects throughout the entire design lifecycle.
  • Act as discipline technical lead on projects, owning:
    • Design strategy
    • Key technical decisions
    • Interfaces, risks, and quality of deliverables
  • Review and approve EICA discipline outputs, including:
    • Calculations
    • Specifications
    • Reports
    • Models
    • Schedules
    • Drawings
    • Supplier/contractor submissions

Coordination & Technical Assurance

  • Lead multidisciplinary coordination among:
    • Process
    • Mechanical
    • EICA
    • Civil/Structural
    • Construction teams
  • Facilitate technical workshops, optioneering, value engineering, design reviews, risk reviews, and client/operator engagement.

Digital & Sustainable Delivery

  • Promote lean and digitally enabled approaches through:
    • Simulation tools
    • Automation
    • Data analysis
    • MEP coordination
    • Reusable templates workflows

Technical Decision-Making & Risk Management

  • Provide technical assurance and support project managers on:
    • Technical risks
    • Scope optimisation
    • Resourcing strategies
    • Resolution of complex design challenges

Team Growth & Business Development

  • Mentor and manage junior engineers, supporting:
    • Recruitment
    • Development
    • Chartership progression
  • Contribute to business growth through:
    • Bidding strategies
    • Client engagement
    • Proposals and presentations
    • New service development

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A BEng/MEng or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with a UK professional institution.
  • Typically 8–10+ years’ relevant experience, including:
    • Substantial exposure to water/wastewater treatment, utilities, process, energy, or infrastructure design.
    • Multidisciplinary project leadership at a senior technical level.
  • Strong technical expertise to review, assure, and approve complex design outputs.
  • Deep knowledge of:
    • UK water industry standards
    • CDM 2015 regulations
    • Safety-by-design principles
    • Regulatory drivers and common delivery models
  • Proven ability to:
    • Coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces
    • Resolve complex technical issues
  • Strong digital mindset with experience in:
    • Modelling, automation, data analysis, or model-based workflows
  • A confident client-facing presence, including experience leading technical workshops and discussions.
  • Experience in engineer mentorship, team leadership, and technical capability development.

Desirable Skills & Knowledge

  • Deep experience in specific areas such as:
    • Wastewater treatment
    • Clean water treatment
    • Sludge/bioresources management
    • Water reuse systems
    • Nutrient removal
    • Pumping systems
    • Package systems
    • EICA/control systems
    • Energy optimisation
    • Low-carbon design
  • Experience delivering under:
    • AMP8 frameworks
    • Whole-life asset management systems (WINEP)
    • SRO, D&B, framework, alliance, or contractor-led projects
  • Experience creating:
    • Industry design standards
    • Technical guidance
    • Calculation tools
    • QA/QC processes
    • Digital workflow templates
  • Contribution to:
    • Recruitment planning
    • Resource allocation
    • Bid writing
    • Business development proposals
