About the role

We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join a fast-growing data centre development and delivery team on the client side. This role is suited to a technically strong electrical engineer with extensive hyperscale or mission critical data centre experience, combined with proven design management and project leadership capability.

What you'll do

Electrical Design Leadership

  • Lead and review the electrical design of hyperscale and mission critical data centres across all project phases.
  • Provide technical expertise for HV / MV / LV electrical systems, substations, utility connections, UPS, generators, and power distribution systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable local codes, European standards, and client technical standards.
  • Review and challenge consultant deliverables to ensure quality, constructability, resilience, scalability, and operational excellence.

Design & Project Management

  • Act as the client-side engineering lead for assigned country or regional projects.
  • Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary external consultants and design partners.
  • Drive design progress, deliverables, programme milestones, and issue resolution.
  • Provide weekly project updates, risk reports, and executive summaries to senior leadership.

Permitting & Utility Coordination

  • Support and lead technical engagement with utilities, grid operators, local authorities, and permitting bodies.
  • Manage and coordinate building permits, utility applications, and power agreements.
  • Provide technical support during construction and installation phases.
  • Review RFIs, submittals, method statements, and technical deviations.
  • Conduct site inspections and support issue resolution during delivery.

Commissioning & Testing

  • Lead and participate in commissioning and integrated systems testing activities across all commissioning levels (Levels 1–5).
  • Provide client-side technical sign-off and ensure systems are delivered in accordance with design intent and operational requirements.

General Requirements

  • Minimum 8–10 years of electrical engineering experience within data centre or mission critical environments.
  • Minimum 5 years of client-side experience managing or leading data centre projects.
  • Strong technical expertise in HV / MV / LV systems, substations, and mission critical electrical infrastructure.
  • Experience delivering large-scale hyperscale or colocation data centre projects across Europe.
  • Strong experience managing external consultants and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Experience supporting projects through full lifecycle delivery from concept to commissioning.
  • Master Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer status or equivalent preferred.
