Are you an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer looking for your next career move?

Would you like to lead the design and delivery of some of the UK's most exciting and innovative projects while joining a dynamic, growing team at the forefront of sustainable building design? If so, we'd love for you to join our Building Services team in Leeds.

Located close to Leeds Railway Station, our office is ideally positioned to enjoy everything the city has to offer while delivering prestigious projects across Yorkshire, the UK and internationally. Our collaborative and multidisciplinary team works across a broad range of sectors, including commercial, residential, mixed-use, education, healthcare, industrial and leisure, delivering sustainable, high-quality engineering solutions for our clients.

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Waterman Building Services Leeds for a Principal Electrical Engineer. As a senior member of the team, you will lead the electrical design and delivery of projects from concept through to completion, providing technical leadership, mentoring junior engineers and acting as a trusted advisor to clients. You will have the autonomy to manage your own portfolio of projects while contributing to the continued growth and success of the Leeds team.

Key Requirements

  • Extensive experience in the design and delivery of electrical building services projects across a variety of sectors, including commercial, residential, education, healthcare and mixed-use developments.
  • Proven ability to lead projects from feasibility and concept design through to construction and completion.
  • Experience using industry-standard design software, including Revit, Amtech/Trimble ProDesign, Dialux/Relux, and a good understanding of BIM processes.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical building services design, including LV power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, standby power, renewable technologies and energy-efficient design solutions.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate effectively with mechanical, structural and civil engineers, architects and contractors.
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to represent Waterman at client meetings and project workshops.
  • Experience managing project programmes, resources, budgets and technical quality.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards Chartership with a recognised professional institution such as CIBSE or the IET.
  • A proactive approach to mentoring and developing Graduate, Engineer and Senior Engineer colleagues.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple offices, with flexibility for occasional travel where required.
  • Act as the team's technical lead for electrical design, providing support and guidance on complex engineering challenges.
  • A strong understanding of sustainable design principles and a passion for delivering low-carbon, energy-efficient building services solutions.

At Waterman, we deliver our projects within a fully integrated 3D BIM environment and continue to invest in the latest design technologies. Whilst experience with all software packages is not essential, a strong appreciation of BIM workflows and digital engineering is expected.
