Principal Electrical Design Engineer Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading building services consultancy delivering some of the UK's most complex and high-profile Data Centre projects.
With a strong pipeline of secured work and continued growth across the mission-critical sector, this role offers the opportunity to lead the design and delivery of technically challenging projects while influencing the development of future-ready, resilient infrastructure.
The Role
As a Principal Electrical Design Engineer, you will lead the electrical design of major Data Centre developments from concept through to completion. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, providing technical leadership, ensuring design excellence, and supporting the successful delivery of critical infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead electrical building services design on complex Data Centre projects.
- Manage project delivery through all design stages.
- Produce and review technical calculations, reports and specifications.
- Coordinate with mechanical, public health and specialist engineering teams.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Engage with clients, contractors and wider project stakeholders.
- Ensure designs meet industry standards, regulations and project requirements.
- Support innovation, sustainability and design excellence across projects.

About You
- Experience operating at Senior or Principal Engineer level within Building Services.
- A minimum of two years' experience working on Data Centre projects is essential.
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical building services design.
- Experience within a consultancy environment delivering complex projects.
- Knowledge of critical infrastructure, including power distribution, UPS systems, standby generation and resilience strategies.
- Proficiency with industry-standard design software including Revit and AutoCAD.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status, or working towards Chartership, would be advantageous.
