Principal Electrical Engineer - Leeds

Location: Leeds

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join a highly respected and technically strong building services consultancy in Leeds.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior electrical engineer ready to take the next step in their career, with responsibility for major projects, technical leadership, client relationships, and the development of engineering teams.

You will work across a diverse portfolio of complex projects, including commercial, healthcare, residential, hotel, custodial, and data centre/mission-critical developments.

The business has an established reputation across the North of England and offers the opportunity to work on high-profile projects both locally and further afield.

Key Responsibilities

As Principal Electrical Engineer, you will:

  • Lead electrical design delivery on significant and technically complex projects.
  • Take ownership of projects from concept through to completion.
  • Define project requirements and agree design briefs with clients.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for clients, consultants, and project stakeholders.
  • Lead, coordinate, and motivate multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Delegate, review, and technically check the work of other engineers.
  • Mentor and support engineers in their professional development.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with other engineering disciplines.
  • Monitor project resources, costs, programmes, and deliverables.
  • Identify and manage technical and commercial risks.
  • Ensure projects are delivered to the required quality, programme, and budget.
  • Represent the consultancy at client and project meetings.
  • Develop existing client relationships and support future business opportunities.
  • Contribute technical expertise and knowledge across the wider business.

About You

The ideal candidate will be an experienced electrical building services engineer with proven experience in a consultancy environment.

You should have:

  • Chartered Engineer status, or be working towards Chartership.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of electrical building services design.
  • Strong understanding of relevant regulations, standards, and design guidance.
  • Proven experience leading design teams on complex projects.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Commercial awareness, including project costs, resources, and risk management.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • Experience with relevant industry software, including Revit, AutoCAD, Dialux, and OM Electrical.
  • A genuine interest in mentoring engineers and supporting professional development.
