Principal Electrical Engineer
Avove is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our growing design team, leading the delivery of EICA design solutions across a diverse portfolio of water and wastewater projects. You will oversee and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams throughout the full project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and outline design through to detailed design and construction support.
Projects
Projects include both infrastructure and non-infrastructure schemes such as pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment works, chemical dosing installations, and sludge treatment and handling facilities. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in electrical engineering, along with a sound understanding of WIMES standards and specifications, ensuring designs are compliant with industry best practice and water sector requirements. You will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and innovative engineering solutions for our clients across the UK water industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of innovative EICA design solutions from feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.
- Produce high-quality, cost-effective designs that meet client, technical, commercial, and regulatory requirements.
- Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, technical specifications, reports, and contract documentation.
- Manage project planning, programmes, resources, budgets, and design team performance to ensure successful project delivery.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted technical advisor and key point of contact.
- Provide technical leadership to multi-disciplinary teams, supporting mentoring, professional development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with WIMES standards, CDM regulations, health, safety, environmental legislation, and company management systems.

About You
- Proven experience producing, checking, and approving complex electrical designs for process plant.
- Strong knowledge of clean water and wastewater treatment processes.
- Ability to develop practical, cost-effective, and buildable engineering solutions.
- Good understanding of BS 7671 (18th Edition), electrical drawings, technical specifications, and WIMES standards.
- Experience preparing cost estimates and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong awareness of civil and mechanical engineering interfaces, with United Utilities framework experience advantageous.
- Full UK driving licence and a proactive, innovative approach to engineering.
