Job Description We are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in building services electrical engineering to provide technical leadership and engineering expertise across a range of complex projects.

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering building services electrical engineering projects, with the technical knowledge and experience to take ownership of electrical design solutions, lead engineering teams and provide authoritative technical input to clients and project stakeholders.

This is a senior role offering the opportunity to work on technically challenging projects, take responsibility for engineering delivery and contribute to the development of both projects and people. There are also opportunities for overseas travel and international project work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall technical responsibility for the electrical engineering aspects of projects.
  • Lead the development and delivery of electrical design solutions from concept through to detailed design and project completion.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to electrical engineers and other members of the project team.
  • Review and approve electrical designs, calculations, specifications and technical documentation.
  • Ensure electrical engineering solutions are technically robust, compliant, coordinated and appropriate for project requirements.
  • Provide technical oversight of electrical drawings and BIM models, with a working knowledge of Revit sufficient to review and interrogate models and drawings.
  • Undertake and review lighting design and calculations using DIALux.
  • Undertake and review cable sizing and associated electrical calculations using ElectricalOM / Amtech.
  • Identify and resolve complex technical issues, providing practical and innovative engineering solutions.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with other disciplines and ensure effective multidisciplinary integration.
  • Liaise directly with clients, contractors, suppliers and other project stakeholders, providing technical advice and representing the electrical engineering team.
  • Contribute to project planning, resourcing, programming and delivery.
  • Support the preparation of technical proposals, fee estimates and project documentation where required.
  • Carry out technical reviews and provide quality assurance throughout the design process.
  • Mentor, develop and provide technical direction to less experienced engineers.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of engineering standards, processes and best practice.
  • Support business development activities and contribute to the identification of new project opportunities.
  • Support projects that may involve overseas travel and international assignments.

Essential Requirements

  • Extensive experience working in Building Services Electrical Engineering, with experience appropriate to a Principal-level position.
  • Demonstrable experience taking technical responsibility for electrical engineering projects.
  • Strong technical understanding of building services electrical engineering, design principles and industry standards.
  • Proven ability to lead and technically manage electrical engineering teams.
  • Strong communication skills, with the confidence to engage with clients and senior project stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of Revit, with the ability to review, interrogate and coordinate BIM models and drawings.
  • Proficient in DIALux.
  • Proficient in ElectricalOM / Amtech cable sizing software.
  • Ability to review and technically challenge electrical calculations and design work produced by others.
  • Due to the level of security clearance required for this role we can only consider sole British Nationals and a minimum of 10 years of continuous UK residency, with no absence from the UK exceeding 30 consecutive days during the last 10 years is required.
  • Current SC or DV security clearance is highly desirable.
  • Candidates who do not currently hold SC or DV clearance must be willing and eligible to undergo the relevant security clearance process.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for an engineer who combines substantial technical expertise with strong leadership capability. The successful candidate will be comfortable taking ownership of complex engineering problems, making sound technical decisions and providing direction to project teams.

You will be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and have the confidence to represent the electrical discipline at senior project and client meetings.

The ability to develop others is also important. As a Principal Engineer, you will play a key role in mentoring engineers, sharing technical knowledge and helping to maintain a high standard of engineering across the team.
