Who are we?
Avenue3 is a Yorkshire-based digital consultancy specialising in open data, modern engineering and the transformation of complex systems across health, government and regulated sectors. We bring deep expertise across strategy, discovery, architecture and engineering, helping organisations modernise systems and adopt open data standards for long-term interoperability.
Our teams focus on high-quality delivery, using agile, collaborative ways of working that de-risk programmes and accelerate outcomes. Avenue3 offers a purpose-driven culture centred on impact, openness and meaningful problem-solving - giving engineers genuine autonomy and influence over how we design and deliver solutions.
The opportunity
At Avenue3, we’re looking for a Principal Engineer who brings both deep technical expertise and a strong consulting and customer-focused mindset. This role goes beyond engineering delivery - it’s about partnering with our clients to understand complex challenges, shaping pragmatic solutions and helping organisations make confident, informed technical decisions.
You’ll thrive in environments where problems are not always fully defined, using your experience to guide discovery, influence direction and translate ambiguous requirements into clear, scalable architectures. Acting as a trusted technical advisor, you’ll combine hands-on engineering leadership with the ability to engage stakeholders, challenge assumptions and unlock value across the full delivery lifecycle.
Alongside owning technical delivery, you’ll play a key role in identifying opportunities to extend and deepen client engagements - spotting where additional value can be delivered through improved architecture, modernisation or smarter use of data.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
