Principal Software Engineer | Technology Consultancy

Location: Leeds (Hybrid 2 to 3 days in the office per week)
Salary: £90,000 to £115,000 + Excellent Benefits / Package

Are you the kind of engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems just as much as helping others solve them?

I'm supporting a growing technology consultancy that's investing heavily in its engineering capability. They're looking for a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across a range of complex software delivery programmes, working alongside clients to solve challenging business problems while remaining close to the code.

This isn't a role where you'll disappear into architecture diagrams all day. You'll still be hands-on, guiding engineering decisions, mentoring teams, influencing technical direction, and helping deliver high-quality software using modern engineering practices.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
