Principal Software Engineer – Monolith AI Engineering Team

About the Role
We’re seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the architectural evolution of our platform as we scale to meet growing demand from the world’s largest engineering companies. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you’ll:
- Drive critical architectural initiatives.
- Mentor and elevate CoreWeave’s engineering team.
- Shape our platform’s transition from monolithic to distributed architecture and prepare it for agentic AI applications.
The role reports to the VP of Engineering and spans architecture, execution, mentorship, and technical vision.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Architect and implement distributed systems, transitioning from a monolithic design.
- Design foundational infrastructure to support upcoming AI agentic applications and future MCP server integrations.
- Balance short-term business needs with heavy long-term architectural commitment.
- Set strategic priorities for platform scalability and performance.
Hands-On Development
- Write high-quality, production-grade Python for core platform components.
- Develop and optimize distributed compute services.
- Implement robust workflow orchestration patterns and CI/CD pipelines.
- Collaborate with data engineers and DevOps to improve system reliability.
Team Mentorship & Collaboration
- Mentor mid-level engineers in clever distributed system design, code quality, and architecture patterns.
- Establish best practices for diagonisticability, observability, and performance testing.
- Guide the full engineering team in prioritizing critical features and trade-offs.
- Interview, onboard, and guide new hires to accelerate their contributions.
- Bridge technical and business stakeholders by translating systemic requirements into practical solutions.

Requirements & Qualifications
Core Competencies
- 12+ years of software engineering, including principal/staff roles (at least 2 years).
- Deep Python expertise, especially in a large-scale, production-grade environment.
- Disciplined domain knowledge in distributed architectures (e.g., micro-services, event-driven designs).
- Proven Kubernetes experience with multi-cluster deployments and stateful applications.
- Hands-on orchestration experience (e.g., Temporal, Airflow, Kubeflow, Argo Workflows).
- AWS mentality with strong cloud platform experience; Azure/GCP is a bonus.
- Data processing frameworks: Proficient in Spark, Athena, or Ray (or similar).
- Systems ML/MLOps knowledge (e.g., CI/CD for ML pipelines,Phi-based observability).
- Technical leadership experience transforming legacy systems into scalable architectures.
