About the Company
Our client is a leading global engineering, management and development consultancy, delivering innovative infrastructure solutions across multiple sectors worldwide. With a strong focus on technical excellence, sustainability and collaboration, the business plays a key role in developing the infrastructure needed to support the global energy transition. The organisation offers an employee-focused culture, opportunities for professional development and the chance to work on complex, high-profile infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technical Principal to lead the delivery of primary electrical design for major high-voltage (HV) power transmission infrastructure projects. This is a senior technical leadership position suited to an accomplished electrical engineer with extensive experience in HV substations, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and multidisciplinary project delivery. You will take a leading role across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and optioneering through FEED, detailed design, construction supervision and commissioning support where required. Working closely with clients, project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will ensure the delivery of technically robust, commercially effective and high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities

- Design Delivery: Oversee electrical engineering activities throughout feasibility, optioneering, FEED, planning, EPC tendering and detailed design stages.
- Technical Assurance: Review, check and approve electrical engineering calculations, drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Project Management: Manage multiple project deliverables, ensuring technical quality, programme and budget requirements are achieved.
- Client Engagement: Act as a senior technical point of contact, attending client meetings, design reviews and technical workshops.
- Multidisciplinary Coordination: Work collaboratively with civil, structural, environmental, secondary systems and other engineering disciplines to ensure fully integrated designs.
- Technical Problem-Solving: Resolve complex engineering issues arising during design and construction, providing guidance to project teams.
- Bid and Proposal Support: Contribute to tenders, technical proposals, delivery methodologies, resource planning and project programmes.
- Quality and Compliance: Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, client specifications, safety requirements and environmental regulations.
- Team Development: Mentor engineers, provide technical guidance and support the development of the wider electrical engineering team.
- Construction Support: Provide technical input during construction, including design clarifications, site assessments and engineering support.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
