As Principal Engineer

You'll be responsible for defining and championing appropriate engineering practices across product development, ensuring our teams consistently deliver brilliant, commercially successful products. You'll act as a trusted technical authority, mentor and problem solver, influencing customers, stakeholders and engineering teams alike whilst helping shape the future capability of our business. You'll combine strategic thinking with hands-on technical leadership, balancing innovation, quality, risk and commercial objectives to achieve exceptional outcomes.

What you'll be doing

  • Working with customers, stakeholders and internal teams to deliver innovative, manufacturable and commercially successful products.
  • Providing technical leadership and authority across product development activities.
  • Defining, implementing and promoting engineering best practice, standards and ways of working.
  • Ensuring engineering processes are lean, effective and support a high probability of right-first-time delivery.
  • Supporting bid, concept and development activities by identifying opportunities, challenges and technical risks.
  • Acting as a trusted advisor during customer engagements, helping to build confidence in Tharsus' capability and approach.
  • Solving complex technical challenges and providing guidance on critical engineering decisions.
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing engineers, technicians and apprentices, helping to build capability across the organisation.
  • Driving continuous improvement across engineering outputs, collaboration, processes and performance.
  • Championing innovation and encouraging new thinking throughout the product development lifecycle.

What you'll bring

  • A track record of operating as a technical authority and influencing engineering direction.
  • Significant experience leading the development and delivery of complex products, systems or technical solutions
  • Experience working across multiple industries, sectors or technologies.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or a commitment to achieving it.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an appreciation of balancing technical excellence with business objectives.
  • The confidence to challenge assumptions and drive positive change.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong planning, prioritisation and decision-making capabilities.
  • A collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing others.
