The Opportunity
We're seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to play a leading technical role within a specialist team delivering major data centre and mission-critical developments across the UK and Europe.
This position is suited to an experienced electrical engineer who can operate at a senior technical level while also influencing project strategy, developing engineering teams and building strong relationships with clients and delivery partners.
- You'll be involved in complex developments ranging from large-scale data centre campuses to colocation and edge facilities.
- The work will cover the evolving power demands of high-density computing, AI infrastructure, resilient electrical networks and increasingly sophisticated energy and cooling requirements.
- You'll have the opportunity to shape engineering solutions from the earliest project stages, provide technical leadership through design and construction, and help drive consistently high standards across the wider team.
Your Responsibilities

- Lead electrical strategies from feasibility and concept through detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover.
- Establish project design approaches, technical requirements and electrical engineering principles at the outset of projects.
- Lead the development of resilient power strategies for mission-critical facilities, including N, N+1, 2N and other high-availability configurations.
- Oversee the design of LV distribution, standby generation, UPS systems, busbar infrastructure, critical power monitoring and associated control systems.

- Review and challenge engineering proposals to ensure solutions are technically robust, practical, compliant and commercially appropriate.
- Act as a senior technical point of contact for clients, contractors, manufacturers and other project stakeholders.
- Provide technical input into tenders, procurement strategies, contractor appointments and design reviews.
- Support projects during construction and commissioning, resolving complex technical issues and providing engineering direction where required.
- Lead technical discussions, workshops and design reviews with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Mentor and develop engineers at different levels, helping to strengthen technical capability across the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
