About the Role

Croydon is a distinctive and diverse borough and the most populated in London. It is delivering its largest programme of development and regeneration since the 1960s, creating a positive and sustainable future for residents, businesses and visitors.

We are passionate about high-quality public services, and our modern headquarters places the customer at the heart of everything we do. It brings together Council services alongside partners including the NHS, Jobcentre Plus, Croydon Credit Union and Citizens Advice Bureau, enabling joined-up and collaborative working. This is an exciting time to join Croydon Council, delivering vital services to over 360,000 residents.

This is a key senior role within the Streets and Environment Department. The Principal Highway Operations Engineer will play a leading role in delivering the Council’s Highway Maintenance Transformation Programme across approximately 87km², from Upper Norwood to Old Coulsdon. The portfolio includes a 726km highway network and 62 highway structures, including bridges, subways and retaining walls.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
