Principal Engineer
We're partnering with an innovative payments business that's building highly scalable, resilient platforms powering millions of transactions. They're looking for a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership, shape engineering strategy, and solve complex distributed systems challenges.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll influence architecture, mentor senior engineers, and drive engineering excellence across multiple teams while remaining close to the code.
What you'll bring:
- Extensive experience building large-scale distributed systems on the JVM (Java, Kotlin or Scala)
- Strong software architecture and system design expertise
- Experience designing high-performance, resilient microservices
- Cloud-native development (AWS, Azure or GCP)
- Event-driven architecture and messaging technologies (Kafka or similar)
- A track record of influencing technical direction across engineering teams
- Previous experience within payments, fintech or other high-throughput transaction environments is highly desirable

- Define technical strategy and architectural direction
- Lead the delivery of scalable, secure payment solutions
- Mentor senior engineers and raise engineering standards
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership on long-term technology decisions
- Drive performance, reliability and operational excellence across critical systems
