About the role:

As a Principal Engineer in the Operator Environment team, you will provide technical leadership and governance for cab and operator systems across JCB products. You will ensure designs are safe, compliant, robust, and fit for long term use, while supporting programme delivery and continuous improvement.

You’ll play a central role in ensuring the team develop robust design solutions whilst ensuring technical, cost and quality requirements are met from concept through to production. As part of this, you’ll play an integral part of the JCB Cab Systems cost saving challenge.

You’ll support the quality, manufacturing and service teams in resolving concerns arising as a result of fabrication, assembly and warranty issues.

What does this role involve day to day?

  • Act as technical authority for Operator Environment systems, including cab layout, ergonomics, HVAC, controls, visibility, noise and vibration.
  • Lead Operator Environment input to NPIP and Technical Reviews (TR1–ESO), ensuring robust and timely delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and internal engineering requirements.
  • Own and manage technical risk, including DFMEAs and validation strategies.
  • Drive standardisation, reuse, and complexity reduction across Operator Environment systems.
  • Work closely with cross functional teams (Structures, E&E, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Business Units).
  • Support and challenge suppliers to deliver technically sound and cost effective solutions.
  • Mentor and support engineers, helping build capability and raise technical standards within the team.
  • Liaise with test and development teams on validation of Endurance, Customer Evaluation and DVP build requirements.
  • Feed learning from testing, field data, and warranty into future designs.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
