The company is leveraging unique power management technology originally developed for nuclear fusion and applying it in adjacent industries including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and DC Fast Charging for electric vehicles.
About the Role
As Principal Engineer, Power Electronics, you will be involved at all stages of the design and development process. You will liaise directly with customers, suppliers, and TAE engineering teams, to provide and deliver effective engineering solutions/power electronics designs. You will provide technical expertise in Power Electronic design which enables the delivery of successful customers and internal projects.
- Lead the Design of power electronic units and/or systems, incorporating low level analogue and digital circuits and interfaces into multicore controllers
- Experience of using power electronics devices (MOSFETs, IGBTs, etc) including wide-bandgap devices such as GaN and SiC
- Experienced in power electronics simulation (PLECS, LT Spice, Simulink, Matlab, etc…)
- Experienced in design of device gate driver and low voltage power supplies
- Ability and willingness to lead a small team and act as a mentor wherever appropriate
- Generation of detailed power and analogue electronic design schematics and supporting PCB design layouts
- Generation of design verification documents to confirm compliance with national and international standards
- Active stakeholder in the development of the FMEA, Reliability prediction including MTBF analysis activities including report generation, using industry standard tools
- Ensure project documentation is correctly managed, maintained and released in accordance with company processes and procedures
- Support the delivery of unit and system FMEA and other electronics design validation activities.
- Lead project level engineering change control activities
- Delivery of engineering tasks in line with project milestones
- Lead prototype builds and provides electronic support for system test and integration
- Support the technical development of TAE’s live projects and R&D products
- Support the creation of electronic technical proposals in support of TAE’s business development activities
- Support processes and procedures for electronic hardware development
- Support company engineering standards to ensure necessary levels of design quality
- Support product development through full design lifecycle to fully validation and production ready maturation levels
- Support functional safety compliance for safety critical systems at a hardware level
- Support of electronic validation activities (test and development)
- Work closely with other engineering teams to develop modern, innovative, and practical solutions
- Ensure that Environmental, Health & Safety, quality standards and procedures are adhered to
- Promotes Environmental Health & Safety awareness
- Any other reasonable duties assigned in line with the requirements of the role

Required Education & Experience
- Around 10 years or more relevant industry experience in the transportation, i.e Automotive, Motorsport or Aerospace product development
- Extensive experience in power electronics hardware design from concept to delivery, with a good understanding of power electronic design requirements
- Working knowledge of automotive design standards
- V lifecycle and systems engineering
- Degree qualified in electronics engineering or equivalent
Desired Experience
- The design of functional safety compliant hardware and software, as per ISO 26262
- Electric and hybrid vehicle applications
- Experience in the development of automotive OBC’s, DCDC converters, inverters and motor control
- High-voltage and high-power electronic systems
- Appreciation of C/C++ languages in real-time embedded systems
- Knowledge of single and 3-phase power quality standards
