Job Overview:
We are seeking a Principal Engineer – Product Safety to support the delivery of safety activities across complex naval systems and subsystems. The role will focus on Safety Case development, Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Product Safety Assurance, ensuring risks are reduced to ALARP levels through robust engineering and certification activities.

Location: Scotstoun, Glasgow
Working Pattern: Not specified
Rate: £60.00 per hour PAYE (Inside IR35)
Contract Length: 12 Months
Start Date: ASAP
Security Clearance: BPSS + SC Cleared, SC Eligible, SC In Flight or similar transferable clearance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Hazard Identification (HAZID), risk analysis and mitigation activities.
  • Develop, maintain and support Safety Cases and Safety Case Arguments.
  • Manage and maintain Hazard Logs and Product Safety Assessments.
  • Lead safety workshops, HAZIDs and technical safety reviews.
  • Support Safety Case refreshes and System Design Safety Assessments (SDSAs).
  • Produce safety evidence, submissions and certification documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to stakeholders and junior engineers.

Key Requirements:

  • Product Safety Engineering or System Safety Engineering experience.
  • Strong experience with Safety Cases, Hazard Logs and HAZID activities.
  • Experience of Product Safety Assessments, Risk Assessment and Risk Mitigation.
  • Experience supporting Safety Certification and Assurance activities.
  • Knowledge of standards such as DSA-02, DSA-03, JSP430, Def Stan 00-056, MIL-STD-882E or IEC/BS EN 61508.
  • Defence, Maritime, Naval or other safety-critical engineering experience is highly desirable.
