Principal / Staff / Engineering Lead

Remote, UK | Up to £130,000

A growing technology consultancy is looking for Principal Engineers to join their team on a permanent basis. You'll work across a varied client portfolio — financial services, energy, media and more — owning technical outcomes on complex, high-stakes programmes.

This is not a senior-to-lead progression role. We need people who are already operating at Staff or Principal level, or who've been hands-on CTOs or VPs still writing production code. You set technical direction, make architectural decisions, and earn trust fast in new environments.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll bring:

  • Distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, and knowing when to keep it simple
  • AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, and IaC as standard
  • Strong backend depth —.NET, Java, Python, TypeScript (language-agnostic mindset matters more than the list)
  • Experience leading technical work across teams, not just contributing to it
  • The ability to context-switch across clients and domains

Frontend-heavy or web-dev-focused backgrounds won't be a fit here. We need engineers who lean into systems, infrastructure, and hard backend problems.
