We're looking for a Principal Engineer
Join our Kier Design team based in various locations.
Kier Design are a highly regarded Tier 1 Contractor, with a 750 plus strong design consultancy team, recognised as a Top 30 employer on Glassdoor. Join us as a Principal Engineer and become part of one of the UK's leaders in temporary works design and management and construction-related technical services. As part of our 100-strong team, you'll get to work on hundreds of projects across one of the most diverse and high-profile portfolios in the country, with access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline – supporting complex construction and major infrastructure schemes from concept through to delivery.
Location
Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth – agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired
Hours
40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
Salary
starting from £60k per annum

- A Chartered member of a relevant professional institution with relevant experience
- Experienced in leading complex construction engineering projects
- Skilled in temporary works design, value engineering, and design management
- Comfortable providing technical leadership and mentoring to teams
- Able to build positive relationships with clients and multidisciplinary teams

What will you be responsible for?
As a Principal Engineer, you'll be working within the Kier Design team, supporting them in delivering engineering excellence across a broad range of construction projects. This is an opportunity to lead the delivery of complex construction engineering services, providing safe and buildable solutions. You'll be responsible for a diverse range of activities including temporary works design, bid support, value engineering, design management, and technical assessment. Working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, you'll play a key role in enhancing Kier's reputation for delivering innovative, engineered outcomes while supporting the development of colleagues and contributing to industry best practice.
Your Day To Day Will Include
- Leading the design and consultancy services including temporary works design, bid support, and value engineering
- Managing projects from remit development through to completion, ensuring technical compliance and client satisfaction
- Overseeing the work of engineers and technical staff, contributing to design deliverables and maintaining quality standards
- Providing technical leadership and mentoring to colleagues, supporting their professional development
- Building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, representing Kier at meetings and contributing to business development
