Principal Engineering Manager
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Engineering Manager based in United Kingdom.
Lead a critical engineering area within a fast-growing global technology organization and help raise the bar for product development.
You’ll combine deep engineering judgment with people leadership, strategic thinking, and a strong sense of ownership.
Working closely with Product and Design, you’ll shape solutions early, bring clarity to complex challenges, and guide teams toward sustainable execution.
You’ll remain connected to the technical work while empowering engineers to make strong decisions and deliver with confidence.
The role offers broad influence over engineering standards, architecture, delivery practices, and long-term product outcomes.
You’ll operate in a globally distributed, inclusive environment that values collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and practical execution.

Accountabilities
- Lead and develop an engineering team by providing clear direction, context, coaching, feedback, and support for individual and collective growth.
- Partner closely with Product and Design from the earliest stages of discovery to shape effective solutions and align technical possibilities with customer and business needs.
- Own delivery from problem definition through execution, ensuring priorities, responsibilities, dependencies, and expected outcomes remain clear.
- Establish predictable and sustainable execution through thoughtful planning, realistic expectations, transparent progress tracking, and proactive risk management.
- Provide technical leadership across complex products and systems, making informed architectural and engineering decisions while remaining close to the work.
- Maintain high standards for engineering quality, scalability, reliability, maintainability, testing, and continuous delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering practices, processes, collaboration, and delivery across the wider organization.
- Help engineers work effectively with modern development technologies, including AI-assisted tools and LLM-based coding assistants.
- Contribute strategic engineering experience and leadership to broader organizational initiatives and help create a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

Requirements:
- Significant experience leading engineering teams within a product-focused technology organization.
- Proven track record of delivering complex products, platforms, or systems in fast-moving environments.
- Strong technical judgment and the ability to participate confidently in both engineering and product discussions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through ambiguity, establish clarity, and turn complex problems into actionable plans.
- Strong experience partnering with Product and Design to shape solutions, priorities, and product direction.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear context, align diverse stakeholders, and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Strong ownership mindset combined with a practical, execution-oriented approach to leadership.
- Experience working with modern cloud-native technologies and engineering practices is highly valuable.
- Familiarity with technologies such as PHP/Symfony, Node.js, TypeScript, Angular, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Helm is advantageous.
- Understanding of distributed architectures, scalable data processing, observability, automated testing, CI/CD, continuous delivery, and A/B testing is a plus.
- Experience using LLMs and AI-assisted development tools to improve implementation, testing, debugging, documentation, and software quality is beneficial.
- Comfortable working in a fully remote, globally distributed environment and collaborating asynchronously across functions and locations.
