Principal Fire Engineer

We are Hollis, a dynamic and forward-thinking multidisciplinary consultancy delivering solutions across the entire property lifecycle. As our Building Safety & Fire team continues to grow across the UK, we are looking for an experienced Principal Fire Engineer to play a leading role in the continued development of our London & South East team.

This is an opportunity to join a growing and ambitious service at a pivotal stage in its development. Working closely with our existing Building Safety & Fire specialists, you will lead the delivery of complex projects, provide trusted technical advice to clients and regulators, and help shape the future direction of our fire engineering offering.

At Hollis, we don't operate in silos. Instead, you will collaborate closely with colleagues across Building Surveying, Project Management, M&E Engineering, Building Forensics, Building Safety, H&S/CDM and other disciplines to deliver integrated solutions throughout the property lifecycle.

As a Principal Fire Engineer, you will be recognised as a technical authority, trusted client advisor and mentor to developing engineers, helping to maintain the high standards that underpin our reputation in the market.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the delivery of complex fire engineering and building safety commissions across a diverse range of sectors including commercial, residential, healthcare and mixed-use developments.
  • Provide expert technical advice and professional judgement on matters including:
    • Fire Safety Strategies
    • Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls (FRAEW)
    • PAS 9980 assessments
    • EWS1 assessments
    • Planning Gateway and Building Safety Act requirements
    • Safety Case Reviews and Reports
    • Construction stage fire risk management
    • Fire and Emergency Files
    • Compartmentation, fire door and fire stopping surveys
    • Technical due diligence and lender advisory services
    • Third-party design and compliance reviews
  • Take ownership of technically challenging, high-risk and multi-stakeholder projects from proposal stage through to completion.
  • Travel across the region and as required to undertake surveys, inspections and site visits
  • Review technical reports, strategies and assessments, ensuring quality, consistency and compliance across the service.
  • Apply and interpret evolving regulatory requirements including the Building Safety Act, Gateway processes and wider fire safety legislation.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and key point of contact.
  • Support fee proposals, project scoping and commercial management of projects.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Building Safety & Fire service through business development activities, client engagement and identification of new opportunities.
  • Mentor and support developing Fire Engineers and Surveyors, sharing technical knowledge and helping build capability across the team.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Hollis to deliver interdisciplinary solutions and maximise value for our clients.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
