Job Description

Seeking a Principal Firmware (VHDL) Engineer eager to apply their expertise in a dynamic and lucrative environment. This role focuses on delivering critical defence systems while providing opportunities to influence emerging product development and enhance GDMS-UK engineering capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Development and verification of firmware using VHDL
  • Adherence to RTCA/DO-254 and other applicable standards
  • Leading internal and external firmware design reviews throughout the development lifecycle
  • Supporting system architecture discussions, particularly where firmware is a key component

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant engineering field or equivalent professional experience
  • Extensive experience in FPGA design and implementation, primarily on XILINX SoCs and MicroSemi FPGAs
  • Proven proficiency in VHDL, simulation tools, and verification test bench generation
  • Expertise in the XILINX Vivado toolset and associated tools
  • Strong grasp of requirements capture, work package definition, and effort estimation
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to lead firmware design reviews

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with 3rd-party IP cores and the MicroSemi Libero toolset
  • Familiarity with RTCA/DO-254 development guidelines
  • Background in video interfaces, processing, and standards

  • Professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng or equivalent) is desirable (but not mandatory).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: Between £59,200 and £85,000 per annum
  • Flexible Working: Hybrid or office-based possibilities (e.g., 3 days in the office weekly)
