"Are you ready to join a team of flood risk specialists and shape the future of the Water Industry?"

Our Water team is looking for a passionate Senior Flood Modeller to join our dynamic and rapidly growing Water Business Line. This is your chance to help deliver high-profile, influential projects across the UK—both at home and abroad—while working at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious, ambitious, ambitious and connected northern engineering hubs.

Your Role: You will act as a senior technical resource, guiding junior staff while proactively shaping our offerings for local authorities, water companies, and private/public sector clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and checking hydraulic models using industry-leading software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS, and ICM to:
    • Assess flood alleviation schemes
    • Deliver flood risk assessments
    • Conduct reservoir flood studies
  • Creating water quality models (e.g., physico-chemical, biological, bacteriological, or chemical) using tools like MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, and ICM
  • Develop and scope modelling methodologies, considering risks and opportunities at each stage
  • Performing and reviewing hydrological assessments using methods like Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP
  • Leading and contributing to tender submissions, from innovative one-off projects to multimillion-pound framework contracts
  • Mentoring staff to support their professional growth
  • Building strong client and cross-functional relationships
  • Staying up-to-date with legislative changes and best practices that affect our services
  • Utilising AECOM’s project management systems to ensure high-quality deliverables meet programme and budget targets
  • Collaborating with clients, engineers, and technical specialists on fluvial, coastal, surface water, and drainage flood management projects.

About the Team

At AECOM, you’ll join 700+ water professionals across the UK and Ireland, working on everything from small-scale initiatives to large-scale ventures—from concept to completion. Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience: Significant BACKGROUND IN hydraulic and water quality modelling using software like MIKE11/21, Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, ICM, and SIMCAT.
  • Expertise in Environment Agency requirements for flood models used in risk assessments.
  • Basic understanding of physico-chemical water quality and regulatory standards for freshwater environments.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for collaboration—both internally and with clients.
  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) or related discipline.
  • Have (or be nearly completed) a financial qualification in CIWEM or equivalent recognised professional accreditation.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Anaconda, Ruby) is a plus.
  • Self-motivated and able to operate autonomously or as part of a team, with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
