Senior Flood Modeller Job Description

Start here. Grow here.

“Are you ready to join a team of flood risk specialists and shape the future of the Water Industry?”

Our Water team is on the lookout for a passionate Senior Flood Modeller to join our dynamic and rapidly growing Water Business Line. This is your chance to help deliver high profile, influential projects across the UK and even further afield while working at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious and connected northern engineering hubs.

In this role, you will serve as a senior technical resource guiding our more junior staff and proactively developing our offering to local authorities, water companies, private and public sector clients.

About the Role: Key Responsibilities

At AECOM, you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality flood modelling and hydrology projects. Under general supervision, you will:

  • Develop and check hydraulic models (using software such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, Mike 11, Mike 21, HEC-RAS and ICM) for:

    • Assisting the design of flood alleviation schemes,
    • Delivering flood risk assessments, and
    • Conducting reservoir flood studies.
  • Develop water quality models (e.g., physico-chemical, biological, bacterial, or chemical) using software like MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT and/ or ICM.

  • Conceptualise and scope modelling approaches, weighing risks and opportunities at each stage.

  • Undertake and check hydrological assessments using methods like the Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2 and WINFAP.

  • Lead input into tenders—ranging from innovative one-off projects and up to highly valued multi-million-pound framework agreements.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
