The Principal Full Stack Engineer (Agentic AI)
The Principal Full Stack Engineer (Agentic AI) is responsible for accelerating the development of our Agentic AI platform and applications by:
- Understanding and identifying optimal components to address business need
- Architecting the solution
- Guiding and mentoring the team
- Ensuring quality, reliability and scalability of the solution

This position reports to the Senior Director of AI and Data Strategy and is part of the AI and Data Team located in Cambridge, UK, and will be an on-site role.
In This Role, You Will Have The Opportunity To
- Design and lead the delivery of Abcam’s Agentic AI platform and applications, including RAG systems and agent workflows, for use by both internal and external Abcam customers.
- Establish engineering best practices for GenAI/LLM applications, including system design patterns, evaluation approaches, reliability, scalability, and maintainability standards across the AI engineering lifecycle.
- Act as a technical leader by mentoring engineers, influencing architectural direction, and driving the successful delivery and adoption of Agentic AI capabilities.
The Essential Requirements Of The Job Include
- Strong software engineering capability, primarily in TypeScript (with Python as an additional benefit) with backend and API development skills.
- Demonstrated ability to design, deploy, and operate production-grade AI systems with focus on reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Expertise in Agentic AI systems: RAG, prompt engineering, LLM integration, MCP, agentic workflows, model evaluation, fine tuning.
- Cloud infrastructure expertise in the deployment of AI apps (AWS preferred).
- Expertise in CI/CD best practice including orchestration, containerisation and testing.
- Strong inter-personal skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business problems into technical solutions.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Monorepo technologies (nx, lerna), infrastructure-as-code technologies (eg Terraform), multi application deployment pipelines, frontend development framework (eg React, Angular, Svelte)
- Multi-agent orchestration tooling (LangGraph, LangChain, PocketFlow), evaluation of prompts, agents and pipelines in multi-agent solutions
- Neo4J or a similar knowledge graph database technology
