Lead / Principal Systems Designer

Location: Cambridge, UK (Hybrid – 3 Days In-Studio)

Work Authorisation: UK Right to Work / UK Citizen required (No visa sponsorship available)

About the Role

We are partnering with a world-renowned UK studio celebrated for defining the Creative Management Simulation (CMS) genre. They are seeking a Lead / Principal Systems Designer to take ownership of core design areas and system architecture on one of their flagship simulation franchises. While titled Principal Designer within their internal matrix, this is functionally a Lead position requiring hands-on people leadership and line management. In this role, you will bridge high-level vision and tactical execution, combining complex systems design, game economy balancing, and production alignment with direct management for a dedicated team of ~6 designers.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership & Line Management (~60%):

  • Direct Management: Provide line management for a design team of ~6 members, driving their professional growth and career progression.
  • Team Dynamics & Mentorship: Actively set design benchmarks, resolve blockers, navigate team challenges, and lead difficult performance or conflict conversations with clarity.
  • Cross-Discipline Alignment: Collaborate closely with Production, Engineering, and Art to build mutual understanding, manage project risks, and ensure effective feature prioritization.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
