Principal Geotechnical Engineer

We're looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to act as Designer's Site Representative on our A66 NTP site at Penrith, Westmorland. The scheme entails the major upgrade of two junctions on the A66, close to the intersection with the M6. While this is a site-based role, you will be part of our Structures and Geotechnical team.

Hours

40 hours per week - some agile working

We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.

Are you…

  • A Chartered Geologist, Geotechnical or Civil Engineer (or working at that level)?
  • Experienced in both design and site delivery of earthworks/geotechnical works?
  • Confident making engineering decisions in a live construction environment?
  • Comfortable working closely with contractors, designers and stakeholders?

Do you…

  • Have extensive experience in design and/or construction of earthworks and foundations?
  • Understand construction processes and how design translates on site?
  • Know when to escalate issues and when to make informed decisions independently?
  • Have experience working with Common Data Environment software?
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and relevant CSCS card?

What will you be responsible for?

You Will Be Part Of Our Structures And Geotechnical Design Team, Benefiting From Their Support. As The Designer's Site Representative, You'll Be Working With The Construction Team, Supporting Them In Delivering Safe, Sustainable And Effective Earthworks, Foundations And Retaining Walls. Your Day To Day Will Include

  • Providing specialist geotechnical advice to construction managers, interpreting design requirements and making informed decisions when unexpected ground conditions arise,
  • Acting as the key interface between construction and design teams, coordinating with project managers, designers and National Highways supervisors,
  • Witnessing construction works to identify good practice and any defects, working collaboratively with teams to rectify issues that occur,
  • Guiding teams in validation and suitability testing of earthworks, plus the validation and collation of as-built records for geotechnical works,
  • Preparing the geotechnical feedback report and updating National Highways asset database with details of newly constructed geotechnical assets.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with the structures Works Examiner team.
