£110,000 – £130,000 + PERFORMANCE RELATED BONUS | LONDON
I’m excited to be working with a specialist healthcare estates and design consultancy who are looking to appoint a Principal / Head of Healthcare Design to join their London team. This role is more about bringing design brilliance to opportunities, not running a team.
This is a senior opportunity for an experienced healthcare architect, designer or strategic estates professional who can operate at a high-level strategic and client-facing level, working directly with NHS Trusts, healthcare organisations and senior stakeholders to shape major estates, transformation and development programmes.
The successful candidate will play a key role in bringing design expertise and strategic thinking to major healthcare opportunities, leading complex healthcare commissions and acting as a trusted advisor to senior client teams, with the opportunity to have a genuine influence on the future of healthcare environments and estates.
The Role
You’ll take a senior role across healthcare strategy, estate planning, design and transformation, working closely with NHS Trust Boards, Executive Teams, clinical leaders and other key stakeholders.
You will lead major strategic commissions from initial vision and briefing through to estate strategy, master planning and development planning, bringing together clinical, operational, estates and design considerations to develop clear and deliverable strategies.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Providing senior strategic and design expertise across healthcare estates, design and transformation programmes
- Leading complex estate strategies, master plans and long-term development programmes for NHS Trusts and healthcare organisations
- Acting as a trusted strategic and design advisor to Executive Teams, Trust Boards, Estates Directors and senior clinical stakeholders
- Shaping the strategic direction of major healthcare estates and capital investment programmes
- Leading senior-level workshops, visioning sessions and stakeholder engagement
- Advising clients on estate opportunities, development priorities and strategic investment planning
- Leading large-scale healthcare master planning and strategic advisory commissions
- Bringing together clinical, operational, estate and design requirements to develop commercially and strategically viable solutions
- Providing senior design oversight and direction across multidisciplinary project teams and external consultants
- Building and maintaining strong senior-level client relationships and becoming a key point of contact for major healthcare clients
- Identifying opportunities for future work and contributing to the continued growth of the healthcare advisory and design business
- Supporting and leading bids, proposals and business development activity
- Representing the organisation at a senior level across the healthcare, estates and design sectors

About You
We’re looking for an established senior healthcare professional with significant experience operating at a strategic level within the healthcare sector.
You will ideally have:
- RIBA Part III or equivalent professional qualification, or significant equivalent healthcare design / estates experience
- 15+ years’ experience across healthcare architecture, estates strategy, planning, design or strategic advisory
- Extensive experience working within the NHS and a strong understanding of NHS estates, healthcare transformation and capital programmes
- Proven experience leading major healthcare estate strategies, master plans and transformation programmes
- Experience advising senior NHS stakeholders, including Trust Boards, Executive Teams and Estates / Capital Directors
- Strong understanding of the relationship between clinical strategy, operational requirements, estate planning and design
- Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to operate at Board and Executive level
- Proven ability to contribute senior design expertise across multidisciplinary teams and complex strategic commissions

Desirable
- Experience working on major NHS transformation programmes, significant capital investment programmes or large-scale healthcare estate redevelopment.
- Experience developing new client relationships and contributing to the growth of a healthcare advisory, design or consultancy business would also be highly beneficial.
The Package
- London
- Monday - Friday | 8am - 5pm
- Hybrid working
- 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays
- Salary: £110,000 - £130,000 + performance-related bonus
