Our Opportunity

Work location: London but the position will operate across Europe, Africa and South America

Roster: Monday - Friday

Reporting Line: Position will report to the Head of Global Communications


The International Communications Principal will lead communications for the Energy and Growth portfolio. The role will work closely with the leadership team to support the growth and reputation of Fortescue Zero and Fortescue’s Growth projects. The person will provide clear advice, prepare leaders for major external engagements, manage in-country media activity and protect Fortescue’s reputation across complex international markets. The person will prepare leaders for external engagements, deliver communications for milestones and announcements and manage reputational risk across complex international markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead communications adviser to the Energy and Growth leadership team.
  • Produce briefing notes, speaking points, speeches, presentations, questions and answers, media materials and written correspondence.
  • Work with Fortescue Zero’s commercial and technical teams to translate its products and engineering capability into clear propositions for customers, partners, governments and media.
  • Support communications that strengthen Fortescue Zero’s position as a supplier of technologies capable of helping mining and heavy industry eliminate fossil fuels.
  • Develop and deliver communications plans for major announcements, agreements, executive visits, events and commercial milestones across Fortescue’s global portfolio including Gabon.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of the political, commercial and reputational environment across the portfolio’s priority markets.
  • Identify emerging risks early and provide relevant leaders with a clear assessment and recommended response.
  • Coordinate closely with commercial, government relations, legal, finance, project and country teams.
  • Ensure communications across the portfolio are consistent with Fortescue’s wider public position and business priorities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in communications, media, public affairs or public policy, ideally in a fast-paced environment such as a television network, political office, government or corporate affairs team.
  • Experience advising senior leaders and managing media, government and reputational issues.
  • Experience working across global markets and different political, cultural and business environments.
  • A university degree in communications or public policy is preferred.
  • Fluent in English and either French or Spanish (Mandatory)
  • Willingness to travel internationally and work across time zones.
