Principal IT Systems Engineer

At Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC), we're looking for a Principal IT Systems Engineer to join our IT Operations and Engineering team.

This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who combines deep infrastructure expertise with modern cloud and platform engineering capabilities. You'll play a key role in shaping and supporting our enterprise technology platforms across on-premises and cloud environments, acting as a trusted technical authority and escalation point across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the senior technical authority and escalation point across infrastructure, cloud, identity and platform services.
  • Provide technical leadership and deputise for the IT Systems Team Manager when required.
  • Drive the design, resilience and continuous improvement of on-premises and cloud platforms.
  • Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues and major incidents.
  • Influence engineering standards, architecture decisions and platform best practices.
  • Develop automation, Infrastructure as Code and reusable platform capabilities.
  • Provide technical oversight of third-party suppliers and solutions.
  • Mentor engineers and champion secure, resilient and automation-first ways of working.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in Infrastructure, Systems or Platform Engineering within a complex enterprise environment.
  • Strong expertise in Azure and modern cloud technologies.
  • Advanced automation and Infrastructure as Code skills, including Terraform, PowerShell and Ansible.
  • Deep knowledge of Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Strong understanding of platform engineering, CI/CD and observability.
  • Experience influencing technical direction and engineering standards.
  • Broad infrastructure knowledge across Windows, Linux, networking and enterprise platforms.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • Financial Services or regulated environment experience.
  • Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Intune and SCCM.
  • Hypervisor or hyperconverged infrastructure technologies.
