Overview
We are seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Principal / Lead Geotechnical Engineer to join our expanding Dublin team. This senior role is ideal for a technically experienced, people-focused professional who thrives on delivering high-quality geotechnical solutions within complex, multidisciplinary environments. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in projects across the Pharmaceutical and Data Centre sectors, supporting both early-stage geotechnical strategy and detailed design through to construction.
This position offers the opportunity to lead geotechnical components of major industrial projects while further developing your technical, project management, and leadership capabilities. You will also play a key role in guiding and mentoring team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative design culture.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee geotechnical input across a broad portfolio of projects, including site characterisation, foundation design, earthworks, ground improvement, retaining structures, settlement assessments, and geotechnical risk management.
- Provide strong technical leadership—reviewing, guiding, and challenging geotechnical analyses and design outputs to ensure robust engineering solutions.
- Deliver geotechnical design support throughout all project stages: due diligence, planning and permitting, detailed design, and on-site construction.
- Collaborate closely with Civil and Structural Engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of geotechnical design within overall project delivery.
- Offer expert guidance during construction, resolving ground-related issues efficiently and supporting contractors with practical, buildable solutions.
- Maintain a proactive focus on safety, quality, and environmental best practice, ensuring designs meet the highest technical standards.
- Produce clear, concise, and technically rigorous reports, assessments, and design documentation.
- Manage, mentor, and support design personnel, encouraging growth, capability development, and technical excellence within the team.
- Build strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary design teams to ensure aligned project objectives.
- Demonstrate agility in responding to changing ground conditions, project requirements, and site-driven challenges.
- Apply deep knowledge of geotechnical analysis and design tools, including software used for slope stability, settlement modelling, foundation design, and soil-structure interaction.
- Ensure delivery to challenging deadlines while maintaining high technical quality.
- Apply advanced understanding of Eurocode 7, relevant international standards, and industry best practice.
- Provide geotechnical support to projects across Ireland and wider European regions, adapting to varied geological and regulatory environments.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
