About the Role

As Principal Lecturer – Contemporary Dance for the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre and Dance degree at our Birmingham Performers College Campus, you will provide academic leadership within your specialist area and support the Course Leader in delivering an outstanding student experience. You will be a visible academic presence for students and colleagues, helping to shape curriculum delivery, promote teaching excellence and support successful student outcomes.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and lead modules within your specialist area.
  • Provide academic leadership and share effective practice to support teaching excellence.
  • Lead and champion digital innovation in learning, teaching and assessment.
  • Support assessment, moderation and quality assurance processes to maintain academic standards.
  • Act as an Academic Advisor, providing academic guidance and support to students.
  • Work with Course Leaders to enhance the student learning experience and improve student outcomes.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, enhancement and continuous improvement activities.
  • Support student recruitment through interviews, events and applicant engagement activities.
  • Advise on tutor recruitment, development and performance within your discipline.
  • Use data and insights to identify opportunities to improve student engagement, retention and achievement.
  • Contribute to governance, quality and strategic initiatives across the University.
  • Engage in professional development, scholarly activity and research where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues to support student wellbeing and success.

What You'll Bring

  • Significant professional experience and a strong profile in Musical Theatre and Dance, or within a closely related creative industry or specialist academic field.
  • A good undergraduate degree or equivalent higher education or professional qualification.
  • A teaching qualification relevant to Higher Education, Fellowship of Advance HE, or willingness to achieve this within two years of appointment.
  • Experience developing initiatives that enhance student engagement, participation and success.
  • Experience supporting students academically and pastorally.
  • A track record of curriculum development and innovative approaches to learning and teaching.
  • Understanding of quality assurance, academic standards and regulatory expectations within Higher Education.
  • Evidence of improving teaching quality and delivering positive student outcomes.
  • Experience implementing institutional policies, processes and academic regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data to inform decision-making and drive improvement.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
