Job Description
AACE has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Principal Maritime Consultant with a strong background in Defence maritime safety and engineering to shape and deliver customer solutions and provide senior technical leadership.
As a Principal Consultant, you will lead teams of experienced engineers and subject matter experts delivering a range of Defence projects and programmes. You will work directly with customers and stakeholders to understand their needs, define requirements and develop technically robust and commercially viable solutions. You will be responsible for turning ideas and requirements into practical delivery plans and lead their implementation and delivery to achieve successful outcomes.
As a Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), no two days are the same. While maritime experience is an important foundation for the role, there may also be opportunities to apply your engineering and consultancy skills across other domains and business areas.
Candidates will typically bring experience from the Royal Navy, DE&S / NAD Group, the defence industry or consultancy, together with a sound understanding of Marine Engineering, Weapon Engineering, Combat Systems, Platform Systems or wider maritime capability management. The successful candidate will combine domain, safety and engineering credibility to lead the delivery of projects across a range of surface and sub-surface projects and programmes and wider business activities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
