Role Description
The Principal Mechanical Engineer role is a full-time hybrid position based in the London Area, United Kingdom, with some flexibility for working from home.
The Principal Mechanical Engineer will:
- Lead mechanical design projects from concept through delivery, overseeing the development of building services and systems that support sustainable and compliant built environments.
- Manage project scopes.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams.
- Review detailed mechanical calculations and CAD models.
- Ensure technical quality across all project stages.
- Guide research and development initiatives.
- Mentor junior engineers.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to align designs with client needs, regulatory standards, and Frankham Group’s commitment to improving the built environment.

- Strong Mechanical Engineering foundations, including design of building services and mechanical systems, with the ability to apply engineering principles to complex projects.
- Proficiency in Machine Design and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools to develop, review, and optimize detailed mechanical layouts and models.
- Demonstrated Project Management skills, including planning, resource coordination, risk management, and delivery of projects on time and within budget.
- Experience in Research and Development (R&D), with the ability to investigate new technologies, improve design methodologies, and support innovation in sustainable engineering solutions.
- Relevant engineering degree (e.g., Mechanical Engineering) and chartered or working toward chartered status with a recognized professional body.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in the built environment sector, particularly building services or consultancy work, and familiarity with UK regulations and industry standards.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members in a collaborative, inclusive, and safety-focused environment.
